TOPIC: BE WARY OF WICKED WAYS

TEXT: PROVERBS 12:5-8

5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

MEMORY VERSE: “The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand” (PROVERBS 12:7).

MESSAGE

James Kasten worked as a sailor after College. His mother, Kate, was a Christian. She taught James the Word of God and exposed him to holiness of life. In the ship, his mates vowed to defile him through fornication, smoking and hard drugs.

James had a rough time working with them, but he remained steadfast in his faith. His mother interceded for him daily, and James later discovered that her prayers helped to sustain him in the faith. Like James, Christian youths should be wary of wicked ways.

The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia defines ‘wicked’ as: “A mental disregard for justice, righteousness, truth, honour, virtue; evil in thought and life; depravity, sinfulness and criminality.” These are sinful attributes which a Christian youth must abhor.

Avoid wicked youths in your school, workplace and community. Association with the wicked will dampen your love and zeal for God, resulting in backsliding. To remain in the faith, feed on God’s Word, pray without ceasing, fellowship with God’s children and you will escape the reward of the wicked, and inherit the blessings of the righteous.

QUOTE: Fellowship with God’s children.

CHALLENGE: Be wary of the wicked and their ways.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace to avoid wicked peers.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
