DCLM Sincere Milk 15 September 2023 — Beware!

DCLM Sincere Milk  15 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Beware!

Topic: Beware!

Text:  2 Peter 3: 14- 18

14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Key Verse: “Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.” 2 Peter 3:17

Message

The word ‘beware’ is a verb used to sound a note of warning to someone or a group of people. It is also used to caution or help an individual pay attention to certain things in order to avoid things that can cause harm. Electricity providers often place caution signs on electrical installations (live wires) to help people avoid getting electrocuted.

There are many things in our surroundings and society today that are more dangerous than live wires. These things are the worldly activities that are rampant all over the world. Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world warns His friends to beware so as not to get involved in the things that can damn their souls. Some of these things are very much visible today and they include – false doctrines, false teachers, false christs, worldly amusements and games, bad association, pornography, deceit, worldly dressing and sports, cultism, drug abuse and other things that can take away your attention from the truth of God’s word.

The word of God counsels that we live in peace without spot and be blameless. Do away with everything that can stain or corrupt your Christian testimony. Do not associate with people that have no regard for holiness and living to please God. Be steadfast, watchful and prayerful like Joseph. Most importantly, be diligent to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Prayer for today: Lord, give me grace to obey Your word all the time.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
