DCLM Sincere Milk  30 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Bible Kidz – Naaman’s Little Maid

Topic: Bible Kidz – Naaman’s Little Maid

Text: 2 Kings 5: 1- 8

1Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

2And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

3And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

4And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

5And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

6And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

7And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

8And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

Key Verse: “And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.” 2 Kings 5:2

Message

The Bible does not tell us her name. But she was a little slave girl from Israel working in the home of a great and honourable soldier of Syria called Naaman. Naaman was indeed a successful soldier, but had a sickness that neither his greatness nor his nation’s idol could take away. The land of Israel was full of sin, idol worship and unbelief at the time, yet this little maid developed faith in the living God, knowing that only God Almighty could heal Naaman and solve all our problems. The little maid did not keep this truth secret, she told her mistress; and the news got to Naaman. Desperate for healing, Naaman got the king’s permission and gifts to go to Israel.

God healed Naaman just as the little maid had assured him. The little maid must have been living a godly life in this foreign land, for them to believed her testimony about God’s power through His prophet. From the life of this maid, we can see some good characteristics thus:
Messenger of good tidings.
Absolute trust in the Almighty God.
Interest and concern for others’ wellbeing.
Dependable witness to God’s mighty acts.
You too should live a godly life wherever you are. Speak out as well about the power of God to save through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Prayer for today: Lord, help many people to believe in You as I tell them of Jesus the Saviour of the world.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
