DCLM Daily Manna 25 August 2023 — Blessedness Of God’s Guidance

DCLM Daily Manna 25 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Blessedness Of God’s Guidance

Topic: Blessedness Of God’s Guidance

TEXT: Genesis 26:1-5

1And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

2And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:

3Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

4And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

5Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Key Verse: “Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father” (Genesis 26:3).

Message

Decisions, we are told, determine destiny. People are faced with the need to make various decisions on daily basis. For instance, young people seeking admission into higher institutions are often faced with difficulty in making the right choices. However, the best guidance comes from God who knows the end from the beginning. Man is limited in scope and knowledge and cannot discern what the future holds.

Our text talks of Isaac at a time there was famine in Canaan and he had to go to King Abimelech in Gerar, obviously on his way to Egypt. Nevertheless, God appeared to him and told him not to proceed but sojourn in Gerar, promising to bless him, perform the promise He made to Abraham his father to give him the land of Canaan and multiply his seed.

Hearing from God and doing what He says is the best way to live a peaceful, successful and fulfilled life. Christ said, “blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it” (Luke 11:28). Paul the apostle testified before Agrippa that he was not disobedient “to the heavenly vision”. He followed that vision from God with all the hazards it entailed and was able to “finish [his] course”, which guaranteed him “a crown of righteousness” from the Lord.

It is interesting that Isaac listened to God and obeyed His word. God blessed him “and [he] grew until he became very great” to the envy of the Philistines. As you study and meditate on His word today, if you also promptly obey all He commands, you will be blessed as Isaac was. There is great joy in the believer who hearkens “diligently unto the voice of the Lord” because he or she eventually enjoys fulfilment of God’s promises.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Follow God’s guidance and receive His fullness.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Psalm 31–35

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
