DCLM Sincere Milk  9 May 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Brighten Your Corner

Topic: Brighten Your Corner

Text — Matthew 5:14-16

14That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

Key Verse: “Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” Matthew 5:15

Message

A candle may not be able to lighten up a whole house but the area where it is placed. As a friend of Jesus, it is expected that you brighten the corner where you are and make a difference no matter how little. Christians are lights in the world. The world is in darkness with its evil deeds and all manner of sins and works of darkness.

However, as the candlestick cannot be placed under a table, bed nor under the cupboard when lit, so God wants us to lighten up and brighten our world. You can make a difference with the way you live, speak, relate, and interact. You are to be a channel of blessing in your neighborhood, school, church, and everywhere you go.

Reach out to the needy, share knowledge, food, experience with those who need them. Prayer also goes a long way in reaching those we might not be able to physically touch. Be the hand, eyes, legs of Jesus today.

Prayer for today: Lord, use my life to touch others.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
