Topic: Choose Your Words

Text: Ephesians 4:29-31

29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Key Verse: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29

Message

Communication is critical to the existence and survival of humans and organizations. It is the process of creating and transmitting ideas, information, points of view, facts and feelings from one location, person, or group to another. The most common form of communication in society is verbal communication. The choice of words and the manner in which they are delivered are important in verbal communication. Words are powerful, with the ability to help, honour, heal, hurt, harm, and humble. The words we choose and how we use them can either build up or tear down others; they can bring a community together or tear it apart. Words are delicate and should be handled with care and respect.

So how can we choose our words wisely? By being mindful of the words we use and the effect they have. When we are mindful of our words, we speak fewer and more positive words. We need God to help us with our choice of words, as well as how we deliver those words. Remember to speak carefully and calmly. Your words as Christians must be gracious, compassionate and helpful to your hearers.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me when I speak to choose my words wisely.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
