TOPIC: CHRIST IS CRUCIFIED – 2

BIBLE TEXT: JOHN 19:28-35

28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

MEMORY VERSE: “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost” (JOHN 19:30).

MESSAGE:

Christ came to the world to fulfill the purpose of saving souls from sin. Fulfilling this mandate did not come as an easy task; it required Christ’s total surrender to the will of the Father in Heaven, as well as enduring suffering and persecution. The good news is that He died, was buried and rose again as the grave could not hold Him back. The crucifixion of Christ gives us eternal life. We ought to embrace this benefit and opportunity to be saved so that Christ’s death is not in vain in our lives.

The agony and pain of the cross as He bore the sin of the whole world was so much for Him. He died so we can live; He became wretched, so we can be rich through Him to possess eternal salvation and other blessings. The more you linger in sin, the more you reject the benefits of the old rugged cross, and this will lead to eternal doom at the end of your life here on earth. Give Jesus a chance so that you can be a changed person forever.

QUOTE: He bore the sin of the whole world.

CHALLENGE: Receive Christ now!

PRAYER: Oh God, may the crucifixion of Christ not be in vain in my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
