BIBLE TEXT: RUTH 1:15-18
16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.
18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.
KEY VERSE: “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God” (Ruth 1:16).
MESSAGE
A man of God once said that “Decision determines Destiny.” This is true because our action today can go a long way to build us in order to become what God has purposed for us. It is good we watch our actions so that they don’t hinder our success and progress in life.
Ruth’s father-in-law, Elimelech, relocated his family from Bethlehemjudah to an idolatrous nation, Moab. Why? There was a famine, a temporal problem that soon disappeared. Impatience and lack of faith in God led him to take a decision with great consequences. He and his two sons died, and that would have ended his whole generation, but for Ruth’s action of faith.
Ruth took a bold step of faith in following her mother-in-law, Naomi, to Bethlehemjudah. She knew the superiority of the God of Israel to the idols in Moab. The decision, though, could cause her to be without a husband; going with the God of Naomi was an encouragement enough for her. While Orpah her sister-in-law, easily turned back, Ruth cleaved unto Naomi, trusting her God. The sacrifice was rewarded by God who made Ruth a great-grandparent in the lineage that produced our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Be ready to pay the price to remain with Jesus to the end. The reward is a crown of righteousness and eternal life.
PRAYER: Help me Lord, to serve You to the end so that I can reign with You in Your kingdom.
FURTHER READING: Matthew 16:24-27
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
