TOPIC: Nothing But The Truth (DCLM Daily Manna 23 March 2022)

TEXT: Matthew 10:34-42 (KJV)

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

KEY VERSE: “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” – (Matthew 10:37)

MESSAGE:

Christian marriage counsellors often ask young couples preparing for marriage to be transparent in relating with each other with respect to their past. This is because they are about to begin a journey, which makes them one indivisible entity. There is little or no individuality after wedding. They are also told that after tying the knot, they should be ready to be dissolved into each other, with no one claiming exclusive ownership of his or her body or property.

Our Lord found it obligatory also to let His disciples know the rules of engagement in the evangelism enterprise. True, they had responded to His call to make them fishers of men; but the Lord wanted them to know the whole truth about the inherent demands in discipleship so they would not accuse Him of withholding vital information that would alert them of the consequences of personal sacrifices.

So, He told them their relationship with God was far more important than with their earthly family. He said His message would cause division between those who desire His light and those who would want to walk in darkness. Jesus said those who deny Him to preserve their lives would lose it while those who endure persecution for Him would gain everlasting life.

When we lead new souls to the Lord, we must adopt Christ’s approach. We should not shy away from letting these new converts know the sacrifices of service as they labour in the Master’s vineyard. Our heavenly Partner promises blessings here in the world and greater riches hereafter in heaven if we stick to Him and do His will.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Let your converts know all they should.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
