DCLM Higher Everyday   15 December 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Cry Unto The Lord, Cry!

Topic: Cry Unto The Lord, Cry!

Text: Psalm 34:17-19

17The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

18The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

Key Verse: “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17).

Message

While commenting on the Book of Psalms, Author Gene Taylor wrote: “While most of the Bible is God’s voice calling to His creatures, the book of Psalms is mankind’s voice raised to the Lord as the various writers express their personal feelings, desires, and needs, with the Spirit of God helping them to strike a chord with the heart of God.” The book of Psalms is not only a hymnbook, it is also a prayer book. It is dotted with the sighs and tears of men in anguish, men in trouble and men in distress. The Lord did not only acknowledge their cries but promised to hear the cries of all those who will pray. “He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he will also hear their cry, and will save them” (Psalm 145:19).

There is a place in God’s heart for the weeping Christian. Are you facing trials and temptations, anguish and agony; are you disturbed and distressed, afflicted and oppressed; are you poor and needy, sick and suffering? Cry unto the Lord, cry!

Quote: Are you poor and needy?

Challenge: There is a place in God’s heart for the weeping Christian.

Prayer for today: Hear my cry, O Lord, attend unto my prayers.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
