TOPIC: DANGER OF STRIVING WITH GOD

TEXT: ISAIAH 45:8-12

8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.

9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?

11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Key Verse: “Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?” (Isaiah 45:9).

MESSAGE:

Many years ago, a man who did not believe in God declared that in 100 years, the Bible would be a forgotten and unknown book. He also boasted that “It took 12 men to start Christianity; one man (referring to himself) will destroy it”. That very year, he died; and a hundred years later, the Geneva Bible Society took over his house, where millions of Bibles were printed and distributed all over the world. What a waste of life!

Have you ever seen where the clay struggles with a porter who is using it to mould? It is not possible. This is exactly what sinners are doing. Human beings are like clay in the hands of the Almighty God, the Creator. So, no one is expected to strive with his/her Maker. Striving means struggling or fighting with a superior person.

Sinners fight against God when they oppose His plan for their lives, particularly His plan of salvation. When you hinder people, or your lifestyle hinders others from coming to Jesus, you are fighting against God. When you say bad things about the people God has created, you are simply fighting your Maker.

No one ever fought against God and won. Pharaoh tried it, Nebuchadnezzar tried it, and they suffered the consequences. Sinners are encouraged to accept the love of God, repent of all sins, ask for pardon and cleansing through the blood of Jesus.

Prayer: O Lord, help me not to fight against Your will and purpose for my life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
