TOPIC: Dangerous Influence (DCLM Daily Manna 12 August 2023)

KEY VERSE: “Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’S people to transgress” (1 Samuel 2:24).

TEXT: 1 Samuel 2:20-26 (KJV)

20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the Lord. And they went unto their own home.

21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the Lord’s people to transgress.

25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the Lord would slay them.

26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

A renowned man of God in one of his power-packed messages made the following remarks regarding the danger of sinful influences. He said, “A leader’s sin is a leading sin, a pastor’s sin is a pervasive sin, a minister’s sin is a misleading sin, a shepherd’s sin is a shielded sin, a father’s sin is a festering sin, a mother’s sin is moulding sin, a naked sin becomes a nurturing sin, a little sin becomes a licensed sin, and an open sin becomes an operative sin”.

Every Christian should constantly pray that the calamity that befell the house of Eli should not happen to him or her. Eli’s family had the opportunity of showing excellent godly examples in worship, child training and other areas. However, the children of Eli scorned that privilege and became children of Belial. They did not only sin, but influenced others to commit whoredom.

God does not have favourites when it comes to dealing with sin or indiscipline. In fact, the closer a person or family is to God, the firmer He is in dealing with their misconducts. God’s judgment was swift against the house of Eli for failing to be a good example to the nation.

The Church is the embassy of the kingdom of God on earth and every family, especially those of Christian leaders, should lead others to God. It is dangerous to engage in presumptuous sin; for every sinful act, no matter how small, will attract God’s judgment. The only solution is to promptly retrace your steps, genuinely repent and turn away from all past sins. Where appropriate, ensure that restitution is made, as this grants a good conscience before God and man.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Those whose premises condone sin will soon slip into the precipice!

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
