DCLM Daily Manna 28 November 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — The Beginning Still Counts!

TOPIC: WE’VE GOT THE KEY

TEXT: Isaiah 22:15-25

15 Thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,

16 What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here, as he that heweth him out a sepulchre on high, and that graveth an habitation for himself in a rock?

17 Behold, the LORD will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.

18 He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house.

19 And I will drive thee from thy station, and from thy state shall he pull thee down.

20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:

21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

23 And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.

24 And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.

25 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it.

KEY VERSE:
“And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.” – (Isaiah 22:22)

MESSAGE:

There are people who parade themselves as people with power and great authority. Most of the time, they arrogate to themselves power and usurp authority not given to them.

Shebna in our text tried to appropriate to himself the authority not given to him. He probably had schemed his way to power and was now plotting to perpetuate his reign. He not only had planned for his days in power but had gone ahead to make preparation for his death and burial in a noble way. But these did not happen. Rather, He was deposed, taken into captivity and died there. God then raised Eliakim who was given the key of power and authority.

All power and authority reside in God and He chooses those He gives them to. Just as He decided to place the key of power and authority on the shoulders of Eliakim, so has He handed the same power and authority to us as believers. We have the keys and are free to determine whatever we wish to do with it. We can choose to open and no man will close; and close and no man will open! We are to determine the course of our lives and happenings around us.

It is however unfortunate that many of us are not exercising this power today. Instead, we allow usurpers and people who lay false claim to power to parade themselves with confidence around. We must rise as believers and take hold of the authority the Lord has given to us. We’ve got the key and must use it to direct the course of our lives and world. Let us not sit idle and watch undesirable things happen around us. Let us shut the gates against evil and throw wide open the doors of righteousness, peace, joy, abundance, good health and prosperity.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Use your key to liberate the world from sin.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
