DCLM Daily Manna 4 December 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Mind Your Ministry

TOPIC: Mind Your Ministry (DCLM Daily Manna 4 December 2021)

TEXT: Numbers 16:36-40 (KJV)

36 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.

38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the Lord, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.

39 And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:

40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the Lord; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the Lord said to him by the hand of Moses.

KEY VERSE: “To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.” – (Numbers 16:40)

MESSAGE:

A pastor had a flourishing and progressive ministry. Everything was fine; new members were being added to the church. There was revival and all the members were happy as prayers were being answered. Suddenly, everything started to go down. The pastor went to God to find out why. The Lord told him that it was an aged woman in the fold who recently passed on to glory that was responsible for all that revival through her intercessory prayers.

In our text, God instructed Eleazar to take the thin plates of the censers used by the rebellious two hundred and fifty Levites in offering incense before the Lord to make a covering for the altar as a reminder to all Israel that anyone who was not a descendant of Aaron would not be allowed to burn incense upon the altar unto the Lord. Those two hundred and fifty rebels were consumed by fire from God in the course of their rebellion and opposition to God’s servants.

In Christ’s Church, God “gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11,12). Just as every part of the natural body is useful in performing its function, whether seen or unseen, working in harmony for the good of the human body, so must the Church be.

Every believer, either called by a title or not, is useful to Christ and the brethren. What God demands is faithfulness in whatever area of work one is called to serve. Seeking the priesthood like the rebellious Levites is unnecessary and counterproductive. We all can, like the old woman in our story, work hard and silently for the edification of the church and for the glory of God. He who sees in secret and who knows all things will surely reward His faithful servants.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Faithful service, not titles, is what brings God’s approval and blessings.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
