TOPIC: Knowing The Truth (DCLM Daily Manna 18 February 2022)

TEXT: John 8:30-36 (KJV)

30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

KEY VERSE: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – (John 8:32)

MESSAGE:

A story was told of a woman who heard of diverse miracles happening in a particular church. ‘I must go’, she told herself. Sadly, she had been married for several years without the fruit of the womb. In search of this blessing, she had gone to many assemblies, all to no avail. While she was in that church, she was surprised, according to her testimony, that for the first time in her life, she heard the gospel message loud and clear. She realised that if she had died in the course of looking for a child without salvation, she would have gone to hell. She repented and gave her life to Christ. That same month, even without any specific prayer, she became pregnant. After nine months, she had a safe delivery. She found the truth that Christ is the Saviour and miracle Worker.

While speaking to the Jews who had just believed on Him, the Lord Jesus instructed them to continue in His word, because only then would they know the truth that could set them free from error. However, some unbelieving Jews were of the opinion that they were “Abraham’s seed and were never in bondage to any man”, and questioned the Lord as to why He said, “Ye shall be made free”. Jesus explained that anyone who lives in sin is a slave to sin and needs the Son of God to make him “free indeed”.

Truth abounds on earth. Natural laws like the law of gravity, the laws of thermodynamics etc., are established truths. But the truth that Christ talks about, which He came to give man, is the one that brings him back to His Creator.

No matter how long we live, life on earth is short in view of eternity. For anyone to partake in Christ’s kingdom, such must have repented and accepted Him as personal Lord and Saviour.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Only the Truth can set free from sin and error.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
