DCLM Sincere Milk 18 NOVEMBER 2021 — A Living Sacrifice

TOPIC: A LIVING SACRIFICE

BIBLE TEXT: ROMANS 12:1-5

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

KEY VERSE: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1)

MESSAGE:

Sacrifice means anything consecrated and offered unto God. It also means to surrender something in order to get something of worth. The Old Testament law prescribed the offering of a clean, sinless and innocent animal for sacrifice in order to be able to approach God. The animal must be without blemish or wrinkle. Anyone who brings an animal with even a little spot will have his sacrifice rejected. This shows the importance God attaches to holiness.

God is holy and desires that anyone who comes to Him must be holy too. This is the reason the Bible emphasizes the need to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto Him. Because of God’s great mercy to us through Jesus Christ, friends of Jesus should willingly offer their bodies to God as “a living sacrifice” for His honour, praise and glory.

As friends of Jesus, we must be dead to sin, be an instrument of righteousness and the temple of the Holy Spirit. Do not allow sin to stain your life. Be clean in your W – Word, A – Actions, T – Thoughts, C – Character and H – Heart.

PRAYER: Lord, I offer my body as a living sacrifice to You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
