TOPIC: DO NOT BE A FAULT-FINDER
BIBLE TEXT: MATTHEW 7:1-5
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
KEY VERSE: “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” (Matthew 7:3)
MESSAGE:
“Oh mom, did you see the dress Besty wore to church? It’s torn at the armpit.” “Oh Dan has failed his mid-term test again.” “Hey Jacinth, you are always late to school.” “Mom, I don’t like this spaghetti, it’s too spicy.” On and on, Jane must complain about one thing or the other she sees in other people’s actions. She seems not to be tired of finding faults in others and never seeing her own shortcomings. She is nosey, proud, lazy and very noisy.
Many children are like Jane. If they are asked to close their eyes to pray, rather than do just that, they will look for how to make a report of other children who are not closing their eyes to pray. It is a very bad and dangerous state for any child to grow in the attitude or habit of neglecting the “log” in his eyes, to search for the “specks” in other people’s eyes. Jesus condemns such a bad habit. Friends of Jesus must first submit themselves to God’s righteous standard. Children who always find fault should repent and turn from such bad habits. Appreciate and point out the good in others. Then correct your own life before correcting others. You are to be a shining light for others to follow.
PRAYER: Lord, forgive me for being a fault-finder, help me to daily examine my own life.
FURTHER READING: Luke 6:41, 42
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
