TOPIC: DO NOT FORSAKE GOD
TEXT: JEREMIAH 2:31-35
32 Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.
33 Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.
34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.
35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
Key Verse: “Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number” (Jeremiah 2:32).
MESSAGE:
The children of Israel were special people called out to serve God. They were given specific laws and instructions on how to serve God so as to enjoy His blessings and favour continuously. God also did great things for them by delivering them from slavery and settling them in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Alas! Instead of obeying God in appreciation for all He has done, Israel forsook God’s ways to serve idols. They were always disobeying God’s word, making Him sad all the time. Yet, God did not leave them alone. He sent prophets to warn, plead with and call them to come back to Him. Did they listen? No, they continued to serve idols, forgetting God their Creator and Redeemer.
It is very unfortunate that today, many children have forsaken God in their thoughts and actions. The counsel of Christ to you now is that you should repent. If you have stopped loving Jesus as you used to, come back now.
Repent of your backsliding, ask for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Surrender to Him and seek to please Him every day through constant prayer, studying and meditating on the word, and living a holy life.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me not to forget You as I grow in life.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
