DCLM Sincere Milk 20 September 2022 — Do you Understand ?
DCLM Sincere Milk 20 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Do you Understand ?
TOPIC: DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
BIBLE TEXT: ACTS 8:30-32
31And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
KEY VERSE: “And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?” (Acts 8:30).
MESSAGE:
The children read the text for the Sunday School lesson in unison. At the end, the teacher decided to call the children one after the other to explain the passage they had just read. He was surprised that, though all the children read the passage fluently, meditatively and loudly, only two had the idea what the passage was saying. Many merely said, “I don’t understand!”

Many people claim they read the word of God often, but their behaviour shows that they do not understand neither do they practice what they read. This was what happened to the Ethiopian official in our Bible passage. He was reading a very important message about the Saviour, yet he did not understand what he was reading. How would he be saved from sin if he did not understand the message of salvation that was presented to him? God saw his heart that he was willing to believe in the Saviour, and sent a teacher to him. Many people are not saved today because they do not understand the word they read and hear.
Do you understand the Bible you read? Are you willing to do God’s command? Then ask the Lord to give you understanding of His word and bless you with godly teachers. Desire to read, be willing to obey and ready also to teach others the word of God.
PRAYER: Lord, give me understanding of Your word and help me to be quick to obey its commandments.
FURTHER READING: Matthew 13:13-17
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
