DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 22 September 2022 — Give up worry: trust God

DCLM Higher Everyday 22 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Give up worry: trust God

TOPIC: GIVE UP WORRY: TRUST GOD

BIBLE TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:4-7

4Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

5Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

MEMORY VERSE: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (PHILIPPIANS 4:6).

MESSAGE:

The origin of the word “Worry” will surprise you. It comes from an old English word “Wrygan”, which means “to strangle”, “to seize by the throat”. And that, exactly, is what worry does. It chokes the mind and clouds your reasoning. Worry puts your brain in a pressure cooker and turns on the heat. That is why the Apostle exhorts believers to “Be careful for nothing”. Is Paul advocating a careless and irresponsible lifestyle? Far from it! He is counselling us to transfer our worries to God through prayer.

Winston Churchill led Britain through the horrors of World War II,_ and he had lots of things to worry about. He later said, “When I look back on all these worries, I remember the story of an old man who said on his deathbed that he had had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened.”

Worry makes you hurry into action, and later, you will feel sorry for your action. So, quit worrying and throw your past, present and future into God’s mighty hand. You will surely be safe, not sorry.

QUOTE: Worry makes you hurry into action.

CHALLENGE: Worrying does not solve problems.

PRAYER: Lord, I cast all my cares upon you.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
