TOPIC: DON’T TOY WITH YOUR TALENTS – 1

TEXT: MATTHEW 25:14-23

14For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

15And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

16Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

17And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

18But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

19After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

20And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

21His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

22He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

23His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

MEMORY VERSE: “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 PETER 4:10).

MESSAGE:

God gave every one of His creatures certain abilities and the capacity to realize them. The more we use our abilities or talents, the more God is pleased with us; it shows we appreciate Him.

On talents, Benjamin Franklin has this to say, “Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What’s a sundial in the shade?” A sundial is a horological device that tells the time of day when there is sunlight by the apparent position of the sun in the sky.

Just like a sundial is obviously useless in a shade, one becomes useless in God’s sight if one’s talent stays concealed. What good are your skills and talents if you don’t put them to use? Excavate your old or hidden talents, polish them up, and start using them.

Talents could be in sports, writing, public speaking, teaching, leadership, caring, engineering, medical sciences, singing, drawing, and filming. Whatever our gifts are, God wants us to use them for the benefit of humanity. With prayers and diligence, your talent can even become a great income earner.

QUOTE: God wants us to use them.

CHALLENGE: Excavate your old or hidden talents.

PRAYER: Thank you God, for giving me talents.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
