DCLM Higher Everyday 6 October 2022 — Doorway to discipleship

DCLM Higher Everyday 6 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Doorway to discipleship

TOPIC: DOORWAY TO DISCIPLESHIP

TEXT: MARK 3:13-19

13And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him.

14And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,

15And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

16And Simon he surnamed Peter;

17And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

18And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite,

19And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.

MEMORY VERSE: “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach” (MARK 3:14).

In this secular age, where many so-called Christians do not read much of the Bible, it seems as if the understanding on ‘following Jesus’ is becoming more confusing. We must discover what it means.

The doorway to discipleship is first, genuine conversion. The next is an answer to the call to discipleship. Every Christian should be a disciple. A disciple is one who abandons all and surrenders to Christ.

Like David Livingstone, he declares, “God send me anywhere, only go with me. Lay any burden on me, only sustain me. And sever any tie in my heart, except the tie that binds my heart to yours.” He is someone who has an undivided heart – a heart that is wholly consecrated to the Lord.

Remember Judas Iscariot? He sold his Master because he was not fully consecrated. The mark of a true believer is summed up in ‘total surrender’ to Christ. He is like Ruth who proved to be fully surrendered to Naomi and Jehovah. She was faithful in adversity, and she became blessed (Ruth 1:14-22; 4:13-17). Are you Christ’s true disciple?

QUOTE: Every Christian should be a disciple.

CHALLENGE: Without true conversion, you cannot be a true disciple.

PRAYER: Oh God, give me the grace to be a true disciple.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
