TOPIC: Doomed Alliance (DCLM Daily Manna 16 March 2022)

TEXT: Isaiah 8:9-22 (KJV)

9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

11 For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,

12 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.

13 Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

17 And I will wait upon the Lord, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

18 Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

21 And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

22 And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

KEY VERSE: “Associate yourselves, ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.” – (Isaiah 8:9)

MESSAGE:

In the history of ancient Israel, the Lord sometimes used other nations to punish His people if they sinned. He did not want them to remain in iniquity, which alienated them from His protection and exposed them to conquest by the enemy. He is the sovereign Lord who can employ the military of any nation, godly or heathen, to implement His agenda.

The Israelites had a taste of this type of proxy judgment from God. Israel teamed up with Syria to battle Assyria, a force the Lord had raised up in military campaigns in the region. In other words, the alliance was unwittingly a war against those appointed by God to fight on His behalf. But the Lord sent a warning to Israel and Syria through Isaiah that their confederacy was in futility.

The great army of faithful believers in Jesus Christ are assured of victory against all the forces of the enemy. No matter how mighty, ferocious and threatening the foe may look on the battlefield, the Lord assures us that they “shall be broken in pieces”. And if they take counsel together, it shall come to nought.

The Lord has given the heaven-bound believer the charge of the great commission. But Satan would employ physical and spiritual adversaries to form alliances to attempt to stop us. We must remember that because we are engaged in the ‘Lord’s war’ to win all nations unto Him and set the captives of Satan free, He will make us unstoppable as we go deep into the communities and the nations of the world to spread the gospel.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Satan’s conspiracies against us have failed already.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
