TOPIC: Drugs Are Destructive.

Key Verse: “Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last, it biteth like a serpent and stingeth like an adder” (Proverbs 23:31, 32).

Text — Proverbs 23:29-35

Message

It was Donald Lyn Frost who said, “Drugs take you to hell, disguised as heaven.” That is an apt description of the deceptive nature of drugs. They promise you a high, euphoria and ecstasy which they may give for a couple of minutes but sooner or later, you recover from their effect only to discover you have been plunged into an abyss of endless sorrows. Between 2020 and 2021, there were more than 100,000 drug abuse-related deaths in the United States.

Many more drug users suffer from diverse somatic and mental illnesses. These were lives with great potential. Sadly, their dreams of greatness were shattered and their destinies truncated by drugs. That’s why God solemnly warns us in our text to avoid alcoholic drinks and drug abuse.

Freedom from drugs is in Jesus. No amount of willpower can overcome drug addiction. Repentance and Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the antidote to drug addiction. If the Son of man shall make you free, you shall be free indeed!

Quote: Freedom from drugs is in Jesus

Challenge: Rejecting drugs is accepting a glorious future.

Prayer for today: Holy Father, help me never to experiment with drugs, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
