TOPIC: EL-ELYON
TEXT: GENESIS 14:17-24
17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale.
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
21 And the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons, and take the goods to thyself.
22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth,
23 That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:
24 Save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
Key Verse: “And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth” (Genesis 14:19).
MESSAGE:
The name El-Elyon means The Most High. It is the name that shows God as the sovereign (overall) Ruler of all the universe. It emphasizes God’s supremacy and power over everything.
This name occurred when Abraham defeated four kings and their armies with only 318 trained servants. Melchizedek, the priest of the Most High God, blessed Abraham because of the victory. He recognized the fact that it was God, the Most High, who gave victory to Abraham. This victory was so spectacular that it was clear that it could have only been achieved through the Most High God.The name El-Elyon should comfort us because it teaches that God is in control of everything. There is nothing that happens on earth outside of God’s control. He is the Sovereign Ruler over all things.
Powerful King Nebuchadnezzar realized that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, is the Most High God. He also confessed that The Most High does whatever pleases Him, both in heaven and on earth.
God is El-Elyon, the Most High God; He is in control of everything in our lives. He is worthy of praise. He is worthy of glory and honour. Let us adore and praise Him continually. Lift up His holy name through your exemplary shining life and the word of your mouth. He will beautify your life with His presence and blessings.
Prayer: The Most High God, I will praise You all the days of my life.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
