DCLM Sincere Milk 21 October 2022 — Eschew Evil

DCLM Sincere Milk 21 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Eschew Evil

TOPIC: “ESCHEW EVIL”

TEXT: 1 PETER 3:10-12

10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

Key Verse: “Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it” (1 PETER 3:11).

MESSAGE:

The word ‘eschew’ means to avoid, to shun and to turn away from. Temptations often stand in the way and confront us, intending to make us fall. It is a barrier or a trap the devil cleverly puts on the way of every child of God.

The physical trap is set by the hunter with a bait on it, appearing harmless, yet intended to injure and kill the prey. The devil sets the spiritual trap (evil, temptations), making it look harmless, but with the intention to hurt and destroy the soul of the careless.

Our Bible passage reveals that your tongue and lips are among parts of your body the devil easily uses to draw you to fall into temptation. To eschew or turn away from evil, you must be prayerful, avoid deceit, cheating and keep yourself from speaking evil.

There are great benefits for those who turn from evil and do good. God’s ear will be open to their prayers. The counsel of God to you today is that you must shun every form of evil.

Prayer: Lord, give me the courage to shun evil so as to serve You acceptably.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
