TOPIC: FOLLOW AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS

TOPIC: 1 TIMOTHY 6:6-12

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Key Verse: “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness” (1 Timothy 6:11).

MESSAGE

Part of the lyrics of a Christian song goes thus:

“Be careful little eyes what you see,
Be careful little ears what you hear,
Be careful little tounge what you say,
Be careful little hands what you do,
Be careful little feet where you go,
There is a Father up above,
And He is looking down in love.”

This is a timely warning for children today.

In the world, there are places of entertainment, pleasure and electronic betting. As a result, many children are already caught in the web of worldly amusements. They waste their time and money on home videos, movies, electronic games and other worldly items which does not promote godliness and righteousness. Furthermore, many precious hours and efforts that should be spent profitably in their studies are focused on the screens, mobile devices and things that do not add value to life.

As children of God, you are expected to read, watch and listen to what is educative and edifying to your souls. The unprofitable movies and television programmes will affect your reasoning and memory abilities. This is the reason for poor performance in examination. We are therefore commanded by God to stay away from pollution of the world because whoever lives in pleasure is dead while alive. Be watchful, the coming of the Lord is at hand.

Prayer: Lord, direct my path through Your Word.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
