DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 20 January 2022 — Give thanks to God

DCLM Higher Everyday 20 January 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Give thanks to God

TOPIC: GIVE THANKS TO GOD

TEXT: PSALM 118:1-9

1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

2 Let Israel now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

4 Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

5 I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

7 The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

MEMORY VERSE: “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever” (PSALM 118:1).

MESSAGE

In a tale, Androcles, a slave who escaped from his captors, found himself in a bush with a lion in severe pains due to a large thorn that stuck to its paws. Androcles helped the lion to remove the thorn from its paws.

Later, when both of them were captured, and Androcles was sentenced to be “thrown to the lion,” it licked Androcles’ hand in appreciation of the man who saved it from death, instead of pouncing on him.Unlike this lion who was able to reflect and thank the slave for saving it earlier, not many youths are thankful to God for the gift of life, divine salvation, protection and provision.

God gave His only begotten Son to save mankind from eternal damnation. Jesus paid the ultimate price for us, and the only thing we can give in return is thanks.

No matter our challenges, every day of our lives presents renewed opportunity for us to express our gratitude to God. Make praising God a habit!

QUOTE: Make praising God a habit!

CHALLENGE: Appreciate God for who He is.

PRAYER: Lord, teach me how to be thankful to You.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
