DCLM Sincere Milk 29 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Giving To The Poor And Needy
Topic: Giving To The Poor And Needy
Text: Deuteronomy 15:7-11
8But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
9Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
10Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
11For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
Key Verse: “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.” Deuteronomy 15:11
Message
Poverty is a state of being in which a person lacks the income (or other means of support) to reliably meet his basic personal needs, such as food, shelter and clothing. Poverty exists in every country in the world, though it is a more pressing issue in some countries than in others. In some countries, the poverty rate is so high that many families cannot afford even two meals in a day. In such situations, children are mostly affected.
The Bible confirms that there would always be people who are very poor and will not be able to afford basic needs. This can be as a result of social-economic problems, natural disasters like Covid-19, famine, wars, terrorists’ activities, etc. However, in the midst of these problems, there will still be many people who can afford the basic necessities of life. The counsel of the word of God for such people is that they share whatever they have with the poor and needy.
The Lord has blessed your family with enough food to eat, clothes to wear and even books and writing materials. Share with other children who cannot afford such things. With the permission of your parents, you can give out the clothes, shoes you have outgrown to children in Internally Displaced Camps, orphanages and slums. Great blessings await you.

Prayer for today: God, please help me to show love and kindness to the people around me.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
