DCLM Sincere Milk 16 January 2023 — God brings the increase

DCLM Sincere Milk  16 January 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — God brings the increase

TOPIC: GOD BRINGS THE INCREASE

Text: 2 KINGS 4:1-7

1Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

2And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.

3Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.

4And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.

5So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.

6And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.

7Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

MEMORY VERSE: “And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.” (2 KINGS 4:6)

MESSAGE:

The poor widow in our passage thought she had nothing to offset her family’s debt but a little oil. In the hands of God though, it was enough. When the woman did what God through prophet Elisha told her to do, the little oil was multiplied. God brought the increase as the oil continued to flow, until all the jars were full.

Many people in the world today are in the same situation the poor widow found herself. People are suffering under terrible economic hardship, living with heavy load of debt that they cannot pay. We can learn a great lesson of faith from the poor widow. God has all things in abundance. All we need do is to give God the little we have because He will multiply it. We can never have too little that God would not be able to use to bless us in return. Whatever gifts or abilities you have, commit it to God and ask Him to show you where and how you can use them.

It often starts in a small way, but God brings the increase. Our life is the greatest gift God desires that we surrender unto Him. Sinners should surrender their lives to Jesus and accept Him as their Saviour and Lord. Believers should continue to live their lives to the glory of God. Trust God to bring the increase as you step out and do His will.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Oh Lord, multiply the little I have and help me to see and appreciate your abundance always.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
