TOPIC: GOD FIRST

TEXT: 1 KINGS 17:9-14

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

Key Verse: “And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son” (1 Kings 17:13).

MESSAGE:

Famine is a period of food shortage when people have little or no food to eat. This was the case in Zarephath at the time of Elijah. The widow and her son were seriously affected by the shortage of food, and at the time Elijah met them, they had only one meal left to eat.

But Elijah, the servant of God, asked her to prepare food for him before she prepared for her family. She obeyed and put the prophet first, because she saw him as a representative of God. She was mightily blessed for her action of faith.

When you put God first, you talk to Him in prayers before you start talking to other people at the beginning of each day. When you put God first, you give Him the best of all that you have. You allow Him to guide you, and do His will every day in every area of your life.

When you put God first, you also listen to His word and obey His instructions. When He is first in your life, He meets the challenges before you meet them, and He carries you through the storms of life. God rewards all who put Him first with numerous blessings. Therefore, you must put God first in your life.

Prayer: Help me Lord, to put You first in my thoughts, words and deeds (actions).

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
