DCLM Higher Everyday 1 April 2024 — God Hates Lying Lips
Topic: God Hates Lying Lips
Text: Proverbs 12:18-22
18There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
19The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
21There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
22Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Key Verse: “Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight” (Proverbs 12:22).
Message
According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, “Lying is, to say or write something that you know is not true.” A lie is told with deliberate intention to conceal the truth and deceive. Testifying of his past life, a man of God said, “I recalled with abhorrence, how we were actively practicing and perfecting our lying skills as teenagers in the high School, hoping we were on the right path to smartness; we never knew we were descending the bottomless valley of destruction…But when Christ met me…lying became so disgusting that I cannot now tolerate any form of it around me.”
Friend, it’s another April Fools’ Day. Avoid lying for fun. If you are living in deceit, and getting away with it, you are not wise. God is Omniscient and can never be deceived. Ananias and Saphira died lying. God hates lying lips. Desist from lying, confess your sins to Christ and receive Him as your Lord and Saviour. He will save you, and empower you to live a righteous and truthful life, with eternal life as your reward.
Quote: Desist from lying
Challenge: Surrender your life to Christ to be free from lies.
Prayer for today: Save me Lord and deliver me from lying lips.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
