DCLM Sincere Milk 2 May 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — God Hears

TOPIC: GOD HEARS

TEXT: 1 KINGS 18:25-29, 36-38

25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.

26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.

27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.

29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

Key Verse: “Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench” (1 Kings 18:38).

MESSAGE:

God created all human beings in His image. He created the eyes, the ears, the mouth and every other part of the body. All these organs of the body are functional in every normal human. God who created the mouth, speaks; God who created the ears, hears; and God who created the eyes, sees.

Prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal were engaged in a power contest, which required each of them to pray for fire to consume the sacrifice they had made. The prophets of Baal prayed to their god from morning till evening, but they did not receive any answer from Baal.

Elijah then came up to pray upon his own sacrifice, and immediately, the fire of God came down from heaven to consume the sacrifice, and confirm that God hears the prayers of His own children.

God is mighty and He is the only One who can hear and answer prayers. Those who bow down to objects or pray to any image or through any human being, cannot receive the answers to their prayers because they are not praying to the right person. Even those who claim to pray to God without meeting God’s condition of repentance and turning away from sin will not have their prayers answered by God.

The way to the throne is the cross. Once you get to the cross through repentance and faith in Christ, you become a member of the family of God and have access to the throne of grace where you can make your request known unto God with assurance that He will hear and answer you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the wisdom and grace to always pray aright.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
