DCLM Higher Everyday 2 February 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiGodless Earthly Life Is Empty – Part 1

Topic: Godless Earthly Life Is Empty – Part 1

Text: Ecclesiastes 2:1-12

1I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.

2I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?

3I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.

4I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards:

5I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits:

6I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees:

7I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:

8I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.

9So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.

10And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.

11Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.

12And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.

Key Verse: “Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:11).

Message

Today, with technology it is easy to explore places you have never travelled to. Many of such places look attractive but have hidden spiritual dangers for Christian youths. Young King Solomon pursued after worldly gains and pleasures. His research finding is an eye-opener and lesson for all. “It is vanity,” he declared. Indeed, Nehemiah Rogers was right when he stated that, “Worldliness and Christianity are two such ends that never meet.”

Dear friend, if you read what Steve Jobs of Apple fame stated about material acquisition as death stared him in the face, you would agree with King Solomon that, “all is vanity and vexation of spirit.” The pleasures that lure youngsters into crime have no lasting benefits. Many youths worship fashion, flashy cars and money. Some have been initiated into cults and sex slavery while seeking wealth without labour. They dupe innocent people across the globe and die at tender ages. Friend, before you lust after ungodly gain and fame think about eternity in hell. We brought nothing into this world and we shall depart with nothing. However eternal glory awaits the righteous.

Quote: Many youths worship fashion

Challenge: A life spent in sin is a wasted one.

Prayer for today: Lord, let holiness be my watchword.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
