DCLM Sincere Milk 19 March 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — God’s hidden treasures
TOPIC: God’s Hidden Treasures.
Text — Isaiah 45:1-6
2I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
4For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
5I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
Key Verse: “And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.” Isaiah 45:3
Message
Treasures are precious objects that have great value. They are often guarded ‘jealously’ to avoid damage or loss. They can be categorized into two:
(i) Natural treasures – these are often hidden in the soil. God made them and men have to dig deep into the ground to bring them out. Some of them are gold, silver, diamond, etc. Though precious, they do not have eternal value and cannot last beyond the earth.
(ii) God’s hidden treasures – these are hidden in His book – the Bible. They have eternal value and can be received through a diligent and daily study of God’s word.
A friend of Jesus must develop a good relationship with God, live for Him, serve Him, and be obedient to all He commands. God’s treasure cannot fade or lose its value – it is eternal and must be cherished.
How valuable is the word of God to you? Do you put it above the things of the world? Be a wise child – come into the camp of Jesus and seek God’s hidden treasure which can take you through this life and beyond.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
