DCLM Sincere Milk 18 March 2023 — Talkative is a deadly habit

DCLM Sincere Milk  18 March 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Talkative is a deadly habit

TOPIC: TALKATIVENESS IS A DEADLY HABIT.

TEXT: PROVERBS 10:18-21

18He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

19In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

20The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

21The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

KEY VERSE: “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.” (PROVERBS 10:19)

MESSAGE:

Research shows that the average person speaks at least 7,000 words a day, with many speaking much more than that. A talkative is someone who is given to talking too much. The quality of being wordy is also talkativeness. The opposite of talkativeness is quietness.

The Bible counsels that “… ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, …” (1 Thessalonians 4:11) Talkatives do not face their business; they are not busy with purposeful activity and thus spend precious time talking. They do not work with their hands; they are not dutiful.

Our Bible passage shows us that a talkative is very open to sin with his mouth. Lying, exaggeration, jealousy, pride, and other sins creep in when one is given too much talking. The way out of this deadly habit is to make a deliberate effort to be quiet.

Give time to meditate on God’s word. Get involved in productive activity. Allot time for your activities and keep to them. Talk to God instead of talking with men, remember that every idle word will be accounted for on the day of judgment.

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Dear Father, help me to keep my mouth under check so that I only speak at the right time.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
