TOPIC: GOD’S WORD AS LAMP
TEXT: PROVERBS 6:20-27
20My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
27Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
MEMORY VERSE: “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life” (PROVERBS 6:23).
MESSAGE:
The first lamp was invented around 70,000 BC, with the primary function of providing illumination. According to John Calvin, “Unless God’s Word illumines the way, the whole life of men is wrapped in darkness and mist, so that they cannot but miserably stray.” To triumphantly navigate your way through this spiritually darkened world, you need God’s Word. If you use the lamp of God’s Word as your guide, you will never lose your sense of direction in life.

Being passionate about the Word, and letting it guide and direct your steps, will keep you away from temptations and everything immoral. God’s Word is a true lamp; studying and meditating on it illumines your pathway, clears your doubts, and makes you a conqueror over demons.
Dear friend, when people in your school, neighbourhood or on the social media are suggesting some strange things to you, take your Lamp and look well; you will never go wrong. Joseph had the Lamp; so, Portiphar’s wife could not lead him astray. Remember, there are blessings in heeding God’s Word.

CHALLENGE: Like a lamp, the Bible always shows you the way.
PRAYER: Help me Lord, to heed Your admonitions and teachings.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
