DCLM Sincere Milk  20 April 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Gomer

TOPIC: GOMER

BIBLE TEXT: HOSEA 1:1-6

1The word of the LORD that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.

2The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD.

3So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.

4And the LORD said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.

5And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.

6And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Loruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.

KEY VERSE: “So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.” (HOSEA 1:3)

MESSAGE:

Hosea was an Old Testament prophet who God used his family life as teaching aids to portray the sinfulness of the children of Israel and His love and forgiveness towards them despite their unfaithfulness. God told Hosea to marry Gomer an adulteress, he went in obedience and paid all that was required and took Gomer as a wife legitimately. Gomer was never faithful to her husband but still went on committing sin which was against the marriage covenant. She left her children, abandoned her husband and went to another man. God told Hosea to go look for her and to pay a price of redemption to bring her back home to himself. Hosea did all, loved the unlovable so as to bring the message of God to the Israelites.

The story of adulterous Gomer is similar to that of many children today. God gave His Son to die on the cross at Calvary to save and redeem you from sin. That was a great price! Are you still taking your salvation for granted and not being serious with your Christian faith? Are you serving God or worldly things?

The call of God to you today is to depart from sin and cleave to the Lord and the Lord alone. The time will soon be up and those who are serving God in truth will soon be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. Are you ready?

PRAYER: Dear Father, I come to you today, accept me and give me the grace never to depart from you.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
