TOPIC: GROWING UP SPIRITUALLY

BIBLE TEXT: HEBREWS 6:1-6

1Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

2Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3And this will we do, if God permit.

4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God’’ (HEBREWS 6:1).

MESSAGE

Elementary knowledge acquired in childhood forms the basis for further studies in life. There are also elementary Christian qualities and virtues which must be improved upon for sustenance of Christian living. Some young Christians trade away such foundational experiences. Others do not grow beyond these initial ones but remain spiritually stagnant.

Growth implies an addition over a period of time. When you have an encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ, you receive free salvation from sin. You must learn more about the faith: holiness, prayer, evangelism, victory over temptations and persecution, Holy Ghost baptism, spiritual gifts, and love for God and neighbours. Our text today challenges believers on the necessity of growth. Those who fall away from the faith are commonly among those who stop growing. They are fond of sharing stale testimonies of past years without any current addition. Build upon the foundation you have received (2 Peter 1:5-9). You must grow in grace and in the knowledge of the word of God. Be regular at Church fellowships. Study the word, appropriate the promises of God and walk in them.

QUOTE: Be regular at Church fellowships

PRAYER: Lord, keep me growing daily in the faith.

CHALLENGE: You are called to a steadfast growth in Christ.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
