DCLM Higher Everyday 15 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Hand-Washing habit
TOPIC: HAND-WASHING HABIT
TEXT: 2 KINGS 3:10-14
11But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.
12And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
14And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.
MEMORY VERSE: “But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah” (2 KINGS 3:11).
MESSAGE:
Our hands play the role of a picker to any part of the body which needs to be washed regularly. The era we live in is characterized by various diseases and emergence of flu and viruses which are mostly prevented from infecting humans through regular washing of hands.
According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Hand-washing: clean hands saves lives.” Each year on October 15, the Global Hand-washing Day, highlights the importance of hand-washing with soap and water as one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of germs.

There is global awareness of hand-washing with soap under clean running water to avoid the spread of the new Corona virus that is ravaging the world today. The Bible also makes us to know that God will not hear a person with dirty hands that is full of blood (Isaiah 1:15-16).
From the text, Elisha served Elijah by pouring water in his hands, implying that serving God requires clean hands. Clean hands can only be achieved by confessing your sins to Christ so that His blood can sanitise your hands and heart from all defilements.
QUOTE: Sanitise your hands and heart.
CHALLENGE: You can only be washed clean by the cleansing blood of Jesus.
PRAYER: O Lord, make me clean within and without.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
