DCLM Higher Everyday 29 September 2022 — Harmony in the home
DCLM Higher Everyday 29 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Harmony in the home
TOPIC: HARMONY IN THE HOME
TEXT: PSALM 133:1-3
2It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
3As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (PSALM 133:1).
MESSAGE:
“A family is a clan held together with the glue of love and the cement of mutual respect… No person is ever alone who is a member of a family” (Fingertip Facts). In December 1988, Focus on the Family Bulletin published the report of a study conducted by over 500 family counsellors, revealing the top traits of successful families:
(i) Communicating and listening,
(ii) Affirming and supporting family members,
(iii) Respecting one another,
(iv) Developing a sense of trust,
(v) Sharing time and responsibility,
(vi) Knowing right from wrong,
(vii) Having rituals and traditions,
(viii) Sharing a religious core, and
(ix) Respecting privacy.
The story of Cain and Abel is a rather sad one. Cain, troubled by inferiority complex, killed his brother. Did he have to do it? No! God gave to each his space to thrive.
Every family needs a healthy dose of sibling rivalry wherein each child’s peculiar abilities could shine through. Rivalry should never lead to bitterness and conflict. However, the task of creating a harmonious family begins with godly fathers and mothers. It also begins with youths, tomorrow’s fathers and mothers.

QUOTE: Rivalry should never lead to bitterness.
CHALLENGE: Be a home builder.
PRAYER: Make me, Lord, an agent of peace.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
