DCLM Higher Everyday 28 September 2022 — Healthy eating habit

DCLM Higher Everyday 28 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Healthy eating habit

TOPIC: HEALTHY EATING HABIT

TEXT: PROVERBS 23:19-23

19Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

20Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

21For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

22Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

MEMORY VERSE: “For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags” (PROVERBS 23:21).

MESSAGE:

Many youths “love” food. They just cannot have enough of eating. Good food is essential to good living, no question. But while eating to live is the practice of achievers, living to eat is the undoing of failures. Overeating is as bad as junk eating and many youths are guilty of both.

Queue up at a fast food joint – for junk foods loaded with fats, salt and sugar, comfort foods with very little health value – and you are considered smart. But are you, really? The American Centre For Disease Control (February, 2021) reports that twenty-one percent of 12 – 19 year olds are obese. Meanwhile, obesity is the trigger for many life-threatening diseases.

Youths, cultivate a healthy eating habit by:

(i) regulating your mealtimes,

(ii) reading the labels on packaged foods,

(iii) eating the quantity of food appropriate for you,

(iv) regulating the urge to take snacks between meals,

(v) deliberately eating slowly, your brain needs time to calibrate your fullness report,

(vi) drinking lots of water about 30 minutes before and after meals.

Also, take in the soul food (God’s word) daily.

QUOTE: Living to eat is the undoing of failures.

CHALLENGE: Avoid overeating.

PRAYER: Jesus, give me grace for self-discipline.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
