TOPIC: HE WAS TEMPTED TOO

BIBLE TEXT: HEBREWS 4:14-16

14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

MEMORY VERSE: “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (HEBREWS 4:15).

MESSAGE:

Temptation is the intentional enticement of a person (boy or girl), with a bait to disobey God’s revealed Word. It is a stark reality of life. Many a youth find temptations too strong and the flesh too weak to resist them. They always fall every time they are tempted. The cry of their heart is, “who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (Romans 7:24).

Our text makes reference to Jesus Christ, our Saviour, whose historic victory over temptation is recorded in the gospels (see Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus was basically tempted in three areas – satisfaction of the flesh, display of might, and materialism. These constitute the various areas by which temptations come to man. Jesus overcame temptations by remaining focused on the Word of God. He used the scriptures to counter the enticements of Satan. We can overcome today by also resisting the tempter, using the Word. We also need to seek the grace of God, avoid the objects of temptation, and fill our hearts with things noble and of good report.

QUOTE: Jesus overcame temptations.

CHALLENGE: Apply for the grace of God.

PRAYER: Help me, oh God, to overcome all temptations, in Jesus’ Name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
