DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 24 January 2022 — Having Fruit unto Holiness

DCLM Higher Everyday 24 January 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Having Fruit unto Holiness

TOPIC: HAVING FRUIT UNTO HOLINESS

TEXT: ROMANS 6:20-23

20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

MEMORY VERSE: “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life” (ROMANS 6:22).

MESSAGE:

Bearing fruit is a phrase used to describe the outward actions that result from the inward condition of a person’s heart. As Christian youths who have been made free from sin, we need to bear fruit in keeping with our relationship with God. We seek to do things outwardly that demonstrate that we have been made new in Christ.

By trusting in Christ for our salvation, we enter into a relationship with God, becoming His servants and children. After salvation, there is need to press forward to be sanctified, to be made holy and be like Christ – our Master. By this experience, our identity is so closely connected to Christ that we are changed to people who are bound to do what is right, having possessed Christ’s nature which is holiness.

Bearing fruit in the Christian life is not about doing works or attempting righteousness in our own strength. Rather, it is about spiritually growing in our walk with Christ, allowing the Holy Spirit to daily transform us, and actively obeying God in all He calls us to do.

QUOTE: We need to bear fruit.

CHALLENGE: Become a fruit-bearing Christian youth.

PRAYER: Oh Lord, help me to be a possessor of Your nature.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
