DCLM Higher Everyday 17 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Help make your home happy

TOPIC: HELP MAKE YOUR HOME HAPPY

TEXT: ACTS 21:7-10

7And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

8And the next day we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

9And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

10And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

MEMORY VERSE: “One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity” (1 TIMOTHY 3:4).

MESSAGE:

Every community, church or society is as strong as the families that make it up. A Christian home is made by Christian parents, and it is the bedrock of any virile community. Every parent desires to have godly children. Philip had his four daughters chaste and obedient to the faith. Philip’s daughters so learned Christ that they could prophesy and edify.

An ideal home should be a place of godliness, practical love, serenity and togetherness; where each member finds comfort, refuge and enjoys being at home and being part of the family. It is the responsibility of every member of a family to make the home conducive.

Parents should not neglect to devote ample time to pray for every child in the family, train them in the way of the Lord, correct them in love and discipline them when necessary. Parents should also avoid being bossy and not provoke their children to wrath (Ephesians 6:4).

Children should be obedient and say no to fighting and stubbornness. Mutual love and respect should also exist among siblings in the home, and chores carried out appropriately.

QUOTE: Children should be obedient.

CHALLENGE: Contribute to making a happy home.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to walk in your counsels.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
