TOPIC: HEROES’ DAIRY – III
TEXT: HEBREWS 11:20-30
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.
21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.
22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.
27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
MEMORY VERSE: “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season” (HEBREWS 11:24-25).
MESSAGE
A man of God said, “If you have faith in God, things that threaten and terrify other people will mean nothing to you.” According to him, the faith you manifest when nobody is watching you, the victory you had in privacy, will help you manifest faith at a time when everybody is watching you.
Moses, the main character in our text today, lived a spectacular life of faith. His birth, nurture, education, vocation, call to ministry and service, were all characterized by faith. Though brought up by Pharaoh’s daughter in the Egyptian palace, he later identified with the enslaved Israelites in Egypt, “Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.”
Moses forsook Egypt only to return after forty years at God’s command, to lead Israel out of Egypt. Through mighty signs and wonders, he succeeded. His faith shone as he shepherded the Israelites through the wilderness. “And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses…” Men of faith are still needed.
QUOTE: Men of faith are still needed.
CHALLENGE: Let faith dominate your words and actions.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to take little actions of faith daily.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
