TEXT: 2 Peter 1:1-4 (KJV)

1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Abraham Lincoln made a promise to his mother to never drink alcohol, and he kept that promise even when offered a drink by a US Army officer. Lincoln explained that he made this promise to his mother when he was a young boy, and he had never broken it. The Colonel advised him to continue keeping his promise, acknowledging it as one of the best promises he had made. The story emphasises the importance of keeping promises and suggests that if mortal men can be faithful to their word, then surely God, who is all-powerful and all-knowing, can keep His promises as well. The anecdote serves as a reminder of the value of integrity and faithfulness in honouring commitments.

In our text, Peter, the apostle, reminds believers of their standing in the faith. Like a sturdy foundation, our faith in Jesus Christ anchors us amidst life storms. He emphasises the importance of acknowledging our identity as chosen and beloved by God, giving us a sense of security and purpose as we journey to the Promised Land.

Through divine promises, believers are bestowed with precious gifts. These promises, rooted in God’s unfailing love and faithfulness, serve as a source of strength and assurance. As recipients of divine grace, believers are granted access to everything necessary for life and godliness. These promises are available to those who trust in God wholeheartedly.

There are several promises in the word of God waiting to be claimed. Everyone who desires salvation from sin and its consequences can freely come to Christ and obtain the promised salvation through His vicarious sacrifice. Precious promises on every aspect of life exist in the Scriptures for the believer. Beyond reading, these promises are available for true children of God. To crown it all, these promises help us to live godly, become partakers of His divine nature, and escape the corruption that is in the world. True Christians need not live as orphans but rely absolutely on God’s promises to take care of them here in the world and to guide them to heaven. However, to enjoy this privilege requires consistent obedience to God’s words and heaven-mindedness.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
True believers live in the light of God’s promises.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
