DCLM Higher Everyday 31 August 2025 — Hypocrites Rebuked By Christ

DCLM Higher Everyday 31 August 2025 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Hypocrites Rebuked By Christ

Topic: Hypocrites Rebuked By Christ

Text: Matthew 23:25-33

25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

26Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.

28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

29Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

30And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

32Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

33Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Key Verse: “Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity” (Matthew 23:28).

Message

According to Wikipedia, hypocrisy is the practice of feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not. This means hypocrisy is claiming to be what you are not and merely put on false appearances of virtues. This reality is common among church goers today. Many youths who go to church assemblies today are not sincere about the Christian faith because they want to belong Jesus and Satan at the same time. They appear outwardly holy, but can commit secret sins and cover them up. You cannot serve God and Mammon at the same.

Christ sternly rebuked religious people for their hypocrisy during His earthly ministry. The warning against hypocrisy is still very strong. Hypocrisy will definitely attract God’s judgment if not repented of. It leads to loss of trust, respect and honour before God and man. Are you living a life of hypocrisy? Repent today! God hates hypocrisy. To be free, come to Christ today. He still forgives and sets free from every form of sin, including hypocrisy.

Quote: God hates hypocrisy

Challenge: Say no to hypocrisy, be a real believer!

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, set me free from the sin of hypocrisy.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
