Topic: I Am Proud To Be Peculiar

Text: 1 Peter 2 :5-12.

5Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

6Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

7Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

8And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

10Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Message

A Christian is peculiar because he is chosen out of the wild world, transformed and made a new creature. To be a child of God in the true sense of it is something to be proud of. Never go about like a chicken taken out of water. Display God’s majesty by living a glorious life. Christianity is delightsome. Oswald Smith wrote:

I’ll tell the world that I’m a Christian

I’m not ashamed His name to bear

I’ll tell the world that I’m a Christian

I’ll take Him with me everywhere

I’ll tell the world how Jesus saved me

And how He gave me a life brand new …

Christians are separated from the world and consecrated to the Lord. Nonconformity to the world in lifestyle is our watchword. We must desist from anything debasing or degrading. Let there be an open avowal of your Christianity.  Failure to identify with Christ will lead to rejection by the Lord. If you deny Him on earth you will not enjoy Him in heaven. Always declare your identity. Never be ashamed of being a Christian.

Challenge: Christians must be proud to be peculiar.

Prayer for today: Oh God, help me not to lose my Christian identity.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
