Key Verse: “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life” (Provers 4:14).
Message
“When all else fails, read the instruction,” Agnes Allen said. According to Cambridge English Dictionary, instruction means advice and information about how to do or use something, often written in a book or on the side of a container. Many brilliant students fail examinations because they don’t read instructions before answering questions. Motorists who disregard traffic signs, do that to their detriment. God’s holy book, the Bible contains instructions on how best we can live to please Him and enjoy His blessings. The Bible is considered outdated and irrelevant to the modern world and many youths, so they don’t read it- a dangerous trend!
Our text reveals many benefits we can derive from God’s Word. These include wisdom, understanding, knowledge, preservation from error, security from dangers, guidance, counsel and the sure path to eternal life. Instructions don’t only come from God’s Word or during examinations; they could also be given by our parents, community leaders or even the government. Instructions are meant to be obeyed. Obedience to directions leads to progress and peaceful co-existence in society. Disobedience to instructions leads to backwardness and unhappiness.
Quote: Instructions are meant to be obeyed
Challenge: Obedience to instructions leads to progress.
Prayer for today: Lord, give me the grace to always obey your instructions.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
